cropCSM: identifying safe and potent herbicides

Designing green herbicides with the cropCSM online resource

Abstract: The increasing use of herbicide has revolutionised weed management, crop yields and profitability. Their widespread use has led to the rise of resistance, and concerns about their impact on the environment. To guide identification of new potent, non-toxic and environmentally safe herbicides, green herbicides, using interpretable predictive models, we have developed cropCSM.

Agrochemicals have been linked to a range of unwanted negative effects of health and the environment. To help identify green herbicides, cropCSM also captures the impact of a small molecule on honey bee (A. mellifera), mallard and flathead minnow toxicity, in addition to measures of human health, including AMES toxicity, rat LD50 and oral chronic toxicity.
